HURRICANE MILTON YARD WASTE AND DEBRIS INFORMATION

Tracking yard waste pickups

To address vegetative debris from Hurricane Milton, the City of North Port's Department of Public Works is running multiple teams of two types of yard waste crews.

The first crew is for yard waste that is binned, bagged or bound in 4-foot sections or less. We are working to pick up this debris on your normal pick-up day (or as close as possible depending on amount curbside), and these crews use the rear loader equipment you are used to seeing. This equipment can make quicker routes though the city. However, the rear loader cannot pick up large piles, cut trees or similar and will leave that behind when they finish picking up the binned, bagged or bound material. That does not mean we forgot to pick up the other items – we will be back with the right equipment.

The other crews are operating claw or clamshell trucks and are followed by dump trucks. These machines can pick up the larger and heavier piles that the rear loader cannot pick up.  Due to the nature of the work and the type of equipment, these crews will take longer to get through the city and are not following standard collection schedules – instead they are working through the city grid by grid.

Debris drop-off sites

Sarasota County has established public drop-off sites for residents living in both unincorporated Sarasota County, as well as the City of North Port and other municipalities, who would like to self-transport vegetative storm debris. Residents can drop off at no cost Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Rothenbach Park, 8650 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota
  • Jackson Road Transfer Station, 250 S. Jackson Road, Venice

Proof of Sarasota County residency is required (i.e. driver's license, tax bill, utility bill, etc.) Residents must self-unload all vegetative storm debris. Volunteer groups may haul and unload vegetative storm materials on behalf of a resident.
